Teething Necklaces

FINALLY, I am posting about an actual project and just not cute pictures of Natalie.

I seriously haven't made one single thing since she was born.  Not one.  I just haven't really had any ideas, until I came across a list I had sitting around of baby projects I wanted to make.  They were basically all done, and had been since way before Natalie arrived, but I still wanted to make some teething necklaces.

I saw them on a bit of sunshine a long time ago and thought they were a great idea and also super cute.

I am not a huge jewelry person most of the time, but I will totally wear these for Natalie's sake :)

Some of my knots are a little funny and make the necklace hang weird, but oh well.  I like it.

I used plastic beads instead of the wooden ones I intended on using.  I thought wood beads might be a little funny to wash, but plastic beads could just be thrown in the washing machine.

I decided to add a ribbon to the ends of mine instead of braiding like the tutorial on that blog shows.  I thought ribbon seemed much easier and wanted to be able to tie/untie it, but I love the way the braiding looks too:

Natalie is starting to chew on everything, but still not real coordinated.  I have already tested this necklace out, and she can get it in her mouth and chew on it for a bit but not super long.  She prefers her fists to anything else so far, but, I know she'll keep getting better at holding onto things and getting them to her mouth.  She seems to like it so far, so I'm happy :)

I have two made so far, but only have pictures of one.  I am pretty sure I'll be making a couple more of them because they are super easy and fun.

Here she is chewing on the other one I've done.. She does really gnaw on it sometimes, but these pictures don't really show it...  And she looks a little crazy, but that's ok :)

Three Months

Natalie is three months old today.

Everyone says it goes by so fast, and it definitely does, but I feel like she should be at least 6 months old by now for some reason :)

She is such a big girl already.  She rolled over from her tummy to her back at 11 weeks, which we were pretty excited about.  She finds it kind of frightening I'm pretty sure, but the rest of us enjoy it.

She smiles constantly, but we're still waiting on a big laugh.  I think she's done it maybe once or twice, but it's so hard to tell.  She squeals ALL the time, but no real laughs I don't think.

I've been walking her out around the driveway and backyard on these nice days, and we attempted to go for a walk the other night... unfortunately our dog decided to run away before the walk began.  Michael chased Dexter all the way down the street.  Both of them running out into traffic multiple times, but thank goodness he caught him and brought him home.  I had convinced myself Dexter was not going to come home that night, so I was pretty relieved to see Michael carrying him back.  We live on a very busy street and Dexter has never been loose before so I just really couldn't believe he didn't get hit.  It was pretty traumatizing for Michael, I think... For me, too, but I didn't have to watch Dexter dart out in front of cars over and over.

SO, our walk that night was kind of ruined.  But I did take her for a walk by myself a couple of days later.  She seemed to like it, but it was close to nap time for her so she fell asleep about 10 minutes into it.  That's ok with me though.

She's pretty fun.  She's still a VERY happy baby, but is getting a little less content just hanging out on the floor playing under her gym.  She has learned there are bigger and better things to play with in this house and likes to switch it up after a little while.  I don't blame her.

She's definitely growing and getting smarter every day.  It's so fun to watch her discover new things.  I can't wait to see what she does next!

Second Draft of Family Portrat/Mythical Creature Drawing

We got our second draft of our family portrait/mythical creature drawing last weekend.  I'm hoping for the third draft to come any day now and REALLY hoping it's the final one.
They got Michael down perfectly this time, and my hair color is much better.  Natalie still needs some help, that's what they are working on now.  I can't wait to see the next one!!!!

P.S. Look how pretty this little girl is...

Mythical Creature Drawing

I'm pretty proud of myself for updating this thing tonight, I hope you know.

I do actually have time to do it more often, I just usually have absolutely nothing to update about besides how cute Natalie is...

She is really cute, by the way.

Anyways, that's not the point right now.

For our anniversary (which is not until the end of April) I decided to have a family portrait drawn of us.  I had seen these mythical creature drawings on this Etsy shop before and thought they were hilarious and I just couldn't resist any longer.  So I decided that would be my present to Michael... and to myself... :)

Here are a few samples of their drawings...

Awesome, right?

Well first I decided I really liked the second one, with the baby as a superhero of some sort and the dog in the creature's mouth... but I wanted the church we got married in to be in the background of the drawing like the third one and thought it would also be cute if we were all just riding together.

And I could not decide on a creature to be riding for the life of me.  So I kept sneakily trying to get Michael to tell me animals he liked, and to help me come up with some random mythical creatures... I finally got out of him that bears are his favorite animal.  The people who draw these kind of just combine a couple of different animals to make up their creature, so I decided on a T-rex for the other part.

Half T-Rex half bear sounded pretty good to me.

I sent tons of pictures, and descriptions of how we normally dress and all that good stuff.  Last Friday they sent me the first draft... And I pretty much haven't stopped laughing since.

Ready for this????

I am obsessed with it :)

I think they got me down perfectly.  The church is ridiculously awesome, and Dexter is pretty freaking great too.

I am having them fix a couple of things on Michael and Natalie, but I think it's going to be really really awesome and hilarious when it's done.  I can't wait to get it :) I am going to get it developed as a 16x20 print I think.

Can't wait.  Seriously.

Oh, I already gave in and told Michael that I did this, by the way.  I made it like 5 days after getting this picture sent to me before I broke down and told him.  I just couldn't keep it a secret.  PLUS I wanted him to make sure he was happy with the way they drew him.  I think I'd be kind of sad if he had done this and I didn't think they did a good job drawing me.

He thought they did a good job on him, but I did tell them I thought his hair might need to be a little longer and with more curl to it since it looks pretty flat here.  Also, Natalie's forehead is a little large... :)

Oh.  And Michael thought Dexter was a koala... It looks EXACTLY like Dexter so I don't know how he didn't recognize him instantly :) Weird.

You have to see a picture of the church I sent them though... They did such a good job.

Awesome, right?

I had them leave the words off and put a cross on top, though.  But I love it.

Now I am just anxiously awaiting the second draft and hoping it will be the final one so we can get this sucker on our wall.

Stay tuned.
